Replacing documents

Replace a document with a different version.

Use the Replace function to overwrite the current version of a document in the library with a file from your local computer. When you replace a document, the existing version of the document will no longer be available for viewing or editing. The option to replace a document is available only if the document is not checked out and does not have a pending draft. Also, you can only replace documents with the same file extension. For example, you cannot replace myfile.txt with myfile.html.

To replace a document:

  1. Click the down arrow next to the name of the document you want to replace.
  2. Click Replace.
  3. Enter the path of the new file, or click Browse and navigate to the file on your computer. The local file you choose in this step replaces the document in the library. Note that if the library manager has set a size restriction on uploads, the new file must be smaller than the size limit.
  4. Click OK to copy the document from your computer and replace the current document. You can click Save as Working Draft to replace the current document and keep it private for further editing.
